We were deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Mrs Olwen Briant, former President of the NPS and a longstanding supporter of the Society.

Olwen was the driving force behind the renowned Picton Stud, known first for breeding British Riding Ponies and later Mountain & Moorland ponies. Her name became inextricably linked with the NPS Novice M&M Final—an esteemed championship which has carried the Picton name since its establishment in 1990. Together with her daughter Lizzie, Olwen played a key role in developing the final into one of the most prestigious novice competitions in the UK.

Olwen’s passion for the showing world was evident in her continued presence ringside, where she enthusiastically supported both Lizzie and her grandson Freddie. Her contributions to the NPS and the wider equestrian community will be remembered with great respect.
